Cooper don’t make average tires. Because Cooper is not your average tire company.

Since 1914, Cooper has been manufacturing tires the American way, with good-old-fashioned pride and ingenuity, and continue to keep our roads safe with quality tires that are built to last.

A lot has happened since our humble beginnings.
The Cooper name has a proud and storied heritage that goes back more than 100 years. In 1915, brothers-in-law John F. Schaefer and Claude E. Hart expanded their tire repair business and purchased The Giant Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, a large-scale tire rebuilding business.

The rise of a trusted company.
In 1926, Ira J. Cooper developed the “Cooper Creed” which focused the company on providing “good merchandise, fair play, and a square deal.” The vision of Ira J. Cooper continues at Cooper today.

The Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is born.
On July 11, 1960, the company became a publicly held corporation and was listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Throughout the next five decades, Cooper expanded its products, manufacturing plants, distribution system, and marketplace, eventually joining the Fortune 500 as one of America’s largest industrial companies in 1983.
Today, more than 9,000 people work in Cooper facilities worldwide, and Cooper operates in more than one dozen countries around the world, helping to collectively move the business forward.
